In our Jewish Berlin Tour your guide will focus more on the Jewish history in Berlin as well as in Germany. This tour will also include all mayor highlight from all important landmarks of Berlin.
We would like to start the tour with a brief history refreshment of Berlin. To better understand Berlin’s turbulent history we will visit such famous places as the historical city center. Part of the foundation areas of Berlin is the Museum Island. We will also see the Berlin cathedral, an impressive protestant church, visit the Charlottenburg palace, the summer residence of the former royal family and drive along the beautiful Under den Linden avenue.
When visiting Berlin one cannot miss the most important highlight: The Brandenburg Gate. For more than 40 years Berlin was a divided city. The Brandenburg Gate is the most important site for the German as our symbol for the reunification. Parts of the former Berlin Wall are still in Berlin. We will visit them as well as the Checkpoint Charlie.
After our basic overview tour we would like to look closer at the Jewish history. One important site for that is the Reichstag. The Reichstag burnt out completely in 1933 and its severe consequences started the darkest chapters of Germany’s history. One of them brings us to the August Bebel Square. In the same year 1933, more than 20 000 books were burnt on this square mainly by Jewish authors.
We would like to give you the chance to also visit the Jewish quarter. One of the most interesting sights in this area is the New Synagogue, with its golden cupola. We will also visit other interesting sights along the way like the Topography of Terror, an exhibition about the Gestapo, the secret Police of the third Reich as well as the Holocaust memorial.
The Holocaust Memorial is an impressive memorial in the heart of Berlin. It was constructed by Peter Eisenmann only a couple of years ago. It holds 2711 concrete blocs. Underneath the memorial one can find an information center.
Berlin also holds an exquisite Jewish museum. The new part of the building, an architectural masterpiece was constructed by Daniel Libeskind, an American architect. The museums talks about the history of Germany’s Jews from the Middle Ages to the present.
At all sites we will give you time for independent exploration. Keep in mind that this is your private, exclusive tour so fell free at any time to request any additional stops or inside visits. Your guide will gladly give you suggestions and recommendations.
